Boiler FAQs

We know central heating systems and boilers are complicated, so we have created a list of questions people often ask about replacing their central heating system and the services we provide. Please check out the following questions to see if we have answered yours.

My boiler is making funny noises, is there something wrong with it?

During normal operations, your boiler should be almost silent, so any unusual noises are a sign something is wrong. Some older boilers may make a funny popping sound. This is called kettling and it’s caused by the sound of water boiling. This is a sign your boiler needs to be serviced and your system may be in need of a Power Flush.

Do I need to get my central heating Power Flushed?

The short answer is yes. Central heating systems build up sludge over time, which clogs the pipework, causing your system to work inefficiently. Ideally, your central heating system should be Power Flushed every five-to-six years to remove sludge and debris. This is sometimes done as part of your annual service package.

How often should I get my boiler serviced?

Ideally, your boiler should be serviced every year. Regular boiler servicing ensures your boiler is working efficiently and safely. Plus, if your boiler is still under warranty, failure to have it serviced in line with the manufacturer’s recommendations can void the warranty. So regardless of how old your boiler is, you should get it serviced every year.

Which areas of Brighton do you cover?

We are a local company based in Brighton, and we cover the greater Brighton and Hove area. Towns and cities we cover include Portslade, Brighton Marina, Newhaven, Saltdean, Rottingdean, Littlehampton and Worthing. We will consider jobs outside this area, so if you live anywhere within 20 miles of Brighton, please get in touch.

My boiler is more than 10 years old, is it worth repairing?

The typical lifespan of a boiler is around 15 years. So if your boiler is 10 years old and only requires a simple fix, it may be worth repairing. If a more substantial repair is required, however, it is unlikely to be cost-effective. In this case, we will recommend you get a new boiler.

What are TRVs and why do I need them?

Thermostatic Radiator Valves, or TRVs, allow you to control the temperature of individual radiators. This can help you reduce heating costs because radiators in rooms which are not used very often can be turned down. You don’t have to fit TRVs but they can make your central heating system more efficient.

Do you offer emergency boiler repairs?

Yes, we have heating engineers on call in the Brighton & Hove area 365 days a year. So, if your boiler breaks down, give us a call and we’ll get your central heating system back up and running in no time with help from one of our emergency boiler repair engineers. We also offer easy payment plans to help you pay for any unforeseen boiler repairs that may be required.

Do you install smart heating controls?

Yes, we install smart heating controls from all the leading brands. A typical smart thermostat installation costs between £150-£280 and allows you to control your central heating system from a smartphone or tablet. This can help save you money, especially if you arrive home at different times every day. Contact us for more information.
